Illinois State night at the Normal CornBelters, June 26

The Illinois State University Alumni Association, the Department of Agriculture, and the Office of the Provost invite you to bring your family out to a Normal CornBelters baseball game this summer!

Join fellow alumni, friends, faculty, summer session students, Reggie Redbird, and Corny for fun and socializing.

Pregame cookout
5–6:30 p.m.  Thursday, June 26
Illinois State’s Horticulture Center, Raab Road

Enjoy the pregame cookout at the Horticulture Center located on Raab Road directly across from the Corn Crib. The event fee of $5 includes a burger/hot dog/veggie burger, chips, cookies, ice cream, and beverages. Each guest will receive one drink ticket and one ice cream ticket with each paid registration. A cash bar will also be available.

7 p.m. Thursday, June 26
Corn Crib stadium, Raab Road

At 7 p.m. the CornBelters will take on Windy City at their stadium on Raab Road. Game tickets are $9 per person.

The Illinois State University Department of Agriculture hosted 47th Annual Ag Awards Program on Sunday, April 27, 2014.

Drs. Whitacre and Spaulding took our National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) chapter to Jacksonville, FL for their annual contest. They had a very successful week and received multiple awards including

  • Outstanding Student Chapter 1st Place (3rd year in a row!)
  • John Deere Signature Award 2nd Place
  • Finalist in the Marketing competition
  • Award for Programs
  • Award for Professional Development

ISU-NAMA also received the ISU Outstanding Large Registered Student Organization of the Year Award and Outstanding Philanthropic Program Award.


Dr. Kopsell took 11 horticulture students to participate in the PLANET Student Career Days competition hosted by Colorado State University. They competed against over 800 students from 61 schools. ISU had top 20 finishes in:

  • Annual & Perennial I.D.
  • Arboriculture
  • Interior Plant I.D.
  • Personnel Management
  • Plant Problem Diagnosis

ISU also placed in the top half of the team competitions in:

  • Hardscape Installation
  • Turf & Weed I.D.
  • Woody Plant I.D.

Horticulture Team


Student Chapter of NAMA at Illinois State University will be hosting the Agriculture Career Day from 9am till 1pm on September 23, 2014 at the Brown Ball Room of the Bone Student Center.


Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University has received certification in Environmental Planning from the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses (ACSP). The plan was developed by a team including Wyatt Byrd, a graduate assistant, David Kopsell, Department of Agriculture, and Missy Nergard, interim director of Sustainability. - See more at:
