Prior to joining the ISU faculty, Donald Meyer was County Extension Director for University of Illinois Extension in the McLean County Unit. In his role as Director, he provided leadership in managing the fiscal resources, local staff, and marketing. Donald began with the McLean County office in 1983 as an agriculture educator and in 1990 moved to the role of manager, overseeing all unit programs. Under his leadership, the Extension program expanded to meet the growing population needs as well as the changing client needs including both rural and urban issues. Besides his management responsibilities, he continued to teach workshops in a variety of subject areas including agricultural awareness, horticulture, agriculture economics, and pest management. Prior to Extension Donald taught 6 years at Lexington High School as agriculture instructor and FFA Advisor.While in Extension, Donald had previously taught 13 credit courses (part-time) at Illinois State University in agronomy, turf, landscape management, agricultural education, and introduction to horticulture.Donald has been recognized for his work as Achievement Award winner in Illinois Extension Agricultural Association and has twice received state awards in the IEAA program. He presented a paper to the National Association of County Agricultural Agents national meeting in 1987. Locally he received the McLean County Outstanding Service to Agriculture Award in 1990, and was recognized for service as a CAST Associates Award winner from the ISU Agriculture Department in 1992. He was recognized in 2000 by University of Illinois Extension, receiving the Award of Excellence for Sustained Excellence in Extension Programming. In 2009 he was honored with the UI ACES “Team Award for Excellence” for his work as a regular panelist on the Illinois Gardener television program on WILL-TV. In 2010 he received the WJBC “Spirit of McLean County” award recognizing his contributions to the community and in 2011 was named the McLean County Chamber of Commerce “Legacy of Excellence” winner. Most recently he received the Mclean County Farm Bureau “Golden Clover” recognition at the 2011 Mclean County 4-H Fair.In addition to teaching at Illinois State University, Don is a licensed real estate salesperson and farm management consultant with Lee Realty in Bloomington.
